Overheating should be eliminated by WD with a firmware update soon! - MyNet N900 Central

Hi,

Don’t know whaich FW they are referring to.

But what I can say is that I am now running the N900 with 5Ghz Wireless enabled (not the 2.4Ghz) and with 4/1 out of 7/1 Gigabit Ethernet ports used and also 1 USB port.

To my great great surprise, placing my hand on it to check the heat had me to lead to the conclusion that it was COOL !

Not even mildly warm.

If I compare to my Netgear CPL Gigabit Switch (no wireless, no router) on which I can fry bacon and eggs should I need to, this is nice.

FW running is the now vanished 1.06.18.

Of course it’s only running since about 12 hours… so wait and see. But AFTER A LONG time of disasterous experiences with this router, it now seems to work to my needs (more or less !).

If something drops down, I’ll report it here (and/or elsewhere

I stumbled upon a WD download site that shows all the old N900 firmware versions (including the rescinded 1.06):

Take a look at this fix which is cheap.

I have had 2 N900 routers at this point.  WD is sending me a third. I have had constant issues on all fronts, and despite some successes with FW such as 1.07.16 (latest one).  I have had overheating problems, but am unable to determine when it does, what actually happens.  WD has no diagnostics to indicate when problems occur. While level 2 support and the beta test team have helped address some of the issues, should my 3rd router seem the same problems, I may be forced to ask for a refund as this router is no where near ready for prime time.
