[OSX Lion] Can see my "myBook world" but can't connect to it

Hi,

I read in the forum that some people have also a similar problem but mine is a bit different.

Till a few days ago all worked fine, also with OSX Lion, then suddenly 2 Mac’s could not connect anymore.

Did a reset, no change.

Then I did a firmware update, but the problem persists.

BUT when I boot from Windows, all works fine.

I just don’t know where the problem could be???

Help appreciated!

This are some logs when I want to connect from my mac.

madmax2003: In Lion, open up Console (/Applications/Utilities) and filter out text for:

Finder

afp

kernel

and paste any relevant results here. Also, could you paste the firmware version on your MyBook MyWorld edition to help narrow down any causes.

So the firmware version is:

01.02.06 with MioNet

built on Thu Oct 21 10:19:41 CST 2010

The older firmware version I don't know anymore, but it was more than a year old.

Console information:

07.10.11 16:50:25,848 Finder: SharePointBrowser::handleEnumerateCallBack returned 5
07.10.11 17:04:43,810 Finder: SharePointBrowser::openNetAuthSession URL is NULL

07.10.11 16:50:25,758 NetAuthSysAgent: AFP error -5014 mapped to EIO

I don't think console information is helpful because when click on the WD disk symbol in finder, finder tries to connect but no information is showing up in console.

How are you trying to connect to your MBMW? If you can, setup an account on the MBMW with password  and connect to it by clicking the Finder in the Dock, pressing Command+K and typing:

username@nameofserver.local

If all goes well, a window will appear asking for a password. Type it in and connect. Chances are, for some bizarre reason, Lion dislikes the no-password situation. Within the next few weeks, the .12 update should be out (which I have been testing) and Lion works a lot better with MBMW (White Lights Edition).

Also, make sure you’re running Mac OS X 10.7.1.

Well, it asks for a password, but then I get an error message.

“While connecting to the server an error occurred. The version of the server, who you want to connect to, is not supported.”

(Translated from german)

When I use guest, it goes a step further and asks me what volume I want to activate (Download, Public,…) but then it stucks loading all time.

Oh dear - that means that the version of AFP installed on the MBMW is outdated. Try updating the firmware to see if that helps. If you cannot update, then try connecting to your MBMW in with the same instructions as my previous post, but enter this instead:

_smb://username@_nameofserver.local

This will make OS X use the Windows version of sharing. When the window for username/password appears, leave the domain blank and enter Guest as user with no password. If that still fails, then try with different combinations.

If all else fails, you can wait for a while until the .12 firmware is released which should be within the next couple of weeks or so (but don’t quote me on it :wink: )

I think I won’t be able to update because I did it a few days ago…

smb works but it is not an option, because my iTunes library is on the MBMW and I can’t play any songs from iTunes… :frowning:
