OSX and FinalCut Compatibility?

Greetings!
New here, and a total NAS noob - and at a complete loss for what I have purchased and if/how to set it up with my hardware/software and workflow. Any feedback or advice on the following would be most valuable.

40gb PR-4100
Specifically purchased to work with OSX and FinalCut.

First, when using Catalina (10.15) I am getting an ‘Unsupported volume type’ error message when trying to use the PR-4100 with FinalCut.

“Choose a local, SAN or supported SMB location”

Secondly, it appears WD OS 5 is only compatible with OSX 11.2? Is there a path to OS Monterey?

Again, time and assistance is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
-Degee

For specific OS5 PR4100 questions there is a subforum for OS5 Pro Series discussion.

OS5 My Cloud Pro Series

The My Cloud OS5 online user manual indicates macOS 10.12 and higher is supported:

Generally one would use SMB to connect to a My Cloud device. One can see the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Network > Network Services and Windows Services to see if additional network protocols are supported by their specific My Cloud model/device.

Did you mean 40gb or 40TB? The RAM on my desktop computer is 64GB.

Hello, thank you…
Yes, my bad… it’s actually a 48TB drive.

4x 12TB
Set to RAID 0
So currently there is 16TB of available space.

Hello Bennor.
Thanks kindly for your repy links/resources.
But I have been through pages and pages of network gobbly-goop (noob of the Noobs). I was really hoping someone here is using this device with OSX and FinalCut as a backup/work drive or something similar. Just to make sure it will actually work with my needs, before I spend another 10-12 hrs trying to decipher volumes of tech journals.

Thanks!

Sorry, I posted this in the wrong thread. Should I repost it to?

Thanks again.

To properly use the PR4100, or any NAS, one will have to learn some of that “gobbly-goop” on how to use properly use it. If you haven’t done so yet see the following Apple support article on using FInalCut with “shared storage”.

Use shared storage with Final Cut Pro
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207128

The My Cloud generally has SMB enabled out of the box. To use something like NFS you will need to activate that network protocol through the My Cloud Dashboard, per the examples shown in my earlier post.

You may want to, or need to, “map” a My Cloud Share to your Mac for easier access.

How To Map a My Cloud or NAS Device on macOS
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24148

How is your Mac connected to the local network (and by extension to the PR4100)? Generally you will want to use a wired Ethernet connection (or some faster wired connection) and not WiFi to connect your Mac to the local network.

Edit to add: Some additional discussion…

And there is this blog post referencing Synology and some tweaks one may have to make using SSH. It is possible something similar may need to be done on the My Cloud if Final Cut Pro doesn’t see the My Cloud.

Not sure I understand. Are you asking if you should repost to the My Cloud OS 5: Online User Guide and Solutions? The My Cloud OS 5: Online User Guide and Solutions is not a discussion forum it is a WD Support Knowledge Base article with a list of other OS5 Knowledge Support articles.

I knew there was more gobbly in my future, just no clue where to really start - I appreciate the links (the screenshot) and feedback.
Thank you very much.
Cheers.

Hello…!
Just thought to give you all an update.

Received my Studio M1 Ultra and FXCP 10.6.2 found, opened and saved to the NAS without issue, or need for all the hacks, code and terminal gobbly goop. Awesome!
FYI others have similar issue.

Thanks again!
