why does the ADMIN account need to have my email / password associated? That is not how I want it set up.
-
I have an Admin account, which I have not given any share permissions too… This account should be isolated and not have permissions to shares.
-
I have two local accounts (my name / my wifes name) each have full permissions to the shares.
-
I tried to invite my user account to cloud access via email, but states, Admin already is using that email. It shouldn’t be…
-
and now, I CANNOT GRANT SHARE PERMISSIONS TO MY TWO USERS!!! They’re grayed out!!!
What a nightmare update…
Ok, so I figured out that I had to turn off public access to be able to have local control over share permissions.
Secondly I figured out that I can delete my local user account and rename the Admin Account. Because of the fact that the admin account was tied to my email for online cloud access, I don’t give the local admin any permissions to the shares. But I removed my local user id, and renamed the Admin account to my local user ID.
Now onto cloud access… NIGHTMARE and I give up. I have reset my password at least 20 times… i’ve spent 5 hours now, missed dinner, missed walking the dogs… and my wife is upset, and now my Time Machine backups will no longer run.
I’ve had this 2nd GEN WD My Cloud since 2015/16 and it’s well overdue for a tech-refresh. This OS5 upgrade is just the motivational factor for me to replace it with Synology as I had planned over a year ago.
Thank you WD, you have now given me the excuse I’ve needed for over a year to get off this platform and onto a real NAS box.

So the upgrade corrupted the timemachine share, I had to create a new one. My current backup will only take 15 hours.
Also, there cloud access absolutely is not working. I’ve changed my password now 30 times, I’m getting emails that my account is locked because an IP address (mine) has tried to access it unauthorized. I have to click authorize.
The cloud share is just not even working at all. The passwords will not sync. Even if I change the password, the GUI hangs forever and returns “something is wrong…”
So, I spent about 7 hours fixing stuff after the upgrade and tomorrow I’m purchasing a new Synology.

I take it that “cloud access” was enabled, and failed to connect, or was cloud access NOT enabled?
Do you know if you unit has started the “indexing” process?
Do you have much content is classed as movies or pictures? Or is it all BackupMaterial?
NOTE: If this is a MyCloud (Gen 2); and Cloud Access is NOT enabled. . .for the love of Mike. . .don’t enable it!!! (See posts by krycha00
)
NOTE: If you have shares dedicated for “backup”; particularly time machine backup; and you MUST enable cloud access. . .make DARN sure the backup shares have cloud access turned off.
