Os X restore through time machine (there was a problem connecting to the server)

Hello, everyone,

I know there’s been some talk about the recent versions of the mac os finding your wdcloud; however, this is a slightly different take and I want to see if anyone else has a solution.

I am using a imac 2011 and have recently upgraded to El Captain. My computer has been backing up the time machine backups to my WDCloud 2TB successfully for a year. I desperately need to return to my previous os (Lion). When I attempt to reinstall from my WDCloud, the Mac recognizes it, but when I sign in as the admin using my computer sign in, it says, “There was a problem connecting to the server.”

I’m in bad shape as some of applications that I use for clients don’t work they way they should and I need to return to safe versions of my OS and software.
