Organizing Large Video Collections

I was looking at WD products to play and organize my video collection.  I have over 1000 movies and wish to view in a better way than a folder browser.  The Boxee Box use to do this by creating a file for each movie, like a meta file that stored the movie information.  And you could browser the movies by genera, see their cover, and such. 

Does any product by WD do this?  If not, any recommendations?

the media library feature does what you want

some people love, it other hate it

but it creates xml files for each file, and then allows you to sort by that data

as for creating the xml’s, most people hear prefer thumbgen, as aposed to the built in scrapper
