Optical Audio always on

After upgrading the firmware to 1.09.10, the S/PDIF (optical) audio port is on even though nothing is plugged into it.  (i.e. glows red).  It will stay on unless I pull the power.  Always been this way?  Would seem that should be off when people are using composite.

are you certain this happened after the firmware?

You can always rollback just to make sure
