One of Five Reds reporting errors

MacBook with latest MacOS
Latest version of Carbon Copy Cloner
Newertech Voyager docks
I have CCC running a backup scenario every night, one clone to a drive that stays at home, then clones to two drives that go to a safe deposit box every few weeks and get replaced by two drives from the safe deposit box.
After the last swap with the safe deposit box my MacBook was unresponsive the next morning. Only a power cycle revived it. Then again the next morning. The lockups are happening when CCC is running a clone to one of my WD Red 3TB drives. Have run Disk Utility and Disk Warrior and no reports of problems. CCC reports read/write errors. Then in recovery mode I saw:
The D_sys_backup partition failed with exit code 8
Problem -69842 occurred while restoring…
Any way to determine what the problem is and fix it? Or just trash the drive and get a new one.
Can’t be a CCC problem as it works with four other disks running seven clones
Can’t be the Voyager dock because one dock works fine with three other drives

You should run Quick test and Extended Drive test in order to test the health of drive using Data Lifeguard diagnostic test. You may replace the drive if any drive fails in test.
