Older WD MyBook not working

I have an older WD MyBook. It won’t connect to my laptop anymore. I think it may be an issue with the mini usb port. I took it out of its casing and tried connecting it to my laptop via SATA wire, but it won’t work because it is not powered. Is there a piece that I can hook it up to that will both power it and transfer data. If so, what’s it called?

If you remove the drive from the enclosure it voids the warranty.

You could try using and external enclosure or connecting with a SATA to USB cable.

I’m having the same issue. I have a SATA wire commented to it, but with the wire connected the hard drive cannot be plugged into AC adaptor for power.

Any help here would be much appriciated!
