Older Dell Latitude doesn't recognize SATA WD Black drive hooked up for cloning

So I got my fancy new 750GB WD Black, put it in an external enclosure, and plugged it into my computer.

Nothing.

Acronis doesn’t see it, Windows “new hardware” doesn’t see it, Norton Ghost doesn’t see it.

I’m running Windows XP (professional, service pack 3), and have a Dell Latitude D520.   It looks like my current hard drive is “Serial ATA…, 9.5, 5.4, SE080”.

Anyone have any ideas?  Is this a compatability issue?  Something simple I’m missing?

Any help would be appreciated!

Carolyn

Hi, Western Digital doesn’t support external enclosures. Have you tried connecting the hard drive directly to a computer motherboard to see if it’s recognized? See the following link for more information about hard drive compatiblity with enclosures.
