Called earlier today and this is what I got.
This Youtube video on how to set up a Tailscale Subnet Router is as good as any. Do this after a Tailscale account has been setup (free for personal use) and Tailscale installed on the desktop.

Iām traveling internationally and not able to access my personal drive except by logging into My Cloud Homeās website. I used to be able to access the desktop app (it loads extremely slowly while outside home) but at least it was better than nothing.
Iām a normal consumer and not a tech specialist. Can someone tell me if thereās an easy solution to get the desktop drag-and-drop feature working again when Iām not at home?
There has to be a device at the same subnet as your My Cloud Home (MCH) that is helping to communicate with you on the road. If you donāt want to buy such a device, then you have to leave an old laptop or desktop connected to the same subnet as your MCH and let it manage the subnet-routing. This is how it could provide Wireguard point to point encryption using the free Tailscale VPN for personal use between you on the road and the MCH at home.
If you can spend about $60 USD, a gateway device below which is like a secure router could do the job and do the subnet routing instead of leaving a PC running:. It has many additional benefits such as USB 3 port sharing of another disk drive which you can add and then read and write securely from abroad, something the MCH cannot provide.
