Not playing all WMV files

why doesnt  the WDTV Live support all WMV files? Some i can play some I cant? Please edify…

does it recognize divx?

Read the manual. It only plays WMV9.

The WMV files play but I get no sound, can anyone help with this, I have updated to the latest firmware.

use mediainfo to find out what streams are in the videos and post back the info.

Like Rich already stated, the WD TV Live only supports WMV9.

Your first (working) file is WMV9, that’s why it works.  :)

The 2nd (non-working) file is WMV8, so it won’t play.  You’ll need to re-encode it to another format (either WMV9 or perhaps to DivX or H264).  Perhaps you can use a free converter like SUPER.  If you’re using a Mac, hopefully someone else can suggest an alternative.

Handbrake does quite well converting WMV2 to H.264/MP3 inside MKV.    That’s what I used to convert my 300+ WMV2 files…

I wasn’t sure if Handbrake could handle WMV files so, if it does, forget about my suggestion to use SUPER (awful website and awful interface, even if it does convert anything).  Plus, there’s a Handbrake build for Mac.  Nice one.  :)
