Hi, Since last few days, SMP acting weirdly as it plays somes times and does not play any video that was payed a whole ago. I’m running SMP on latest firmware. Not sure is this a common problem or my SmP has a issue. Please help or any clues. Thanks Syam
If you started to have the problem after doing a firmware update, you can do a roll back. Also if you are playing the videos from an external hard drive, try to use another one and check if the problem continues.
You may be experiencing the “Format not supported” bug. Try powering off the device by holding down the Power button on the remote until it shuts down (after 3-5 seconds). Alternatively, you could “hard reset” the device by unplugging it.
This bug is triggered after playing a video that the device doesn’t like.
I experienced the same thing. Once you come across a video that the WDTV Live unit does not like because of the audio or video part of the file it will not allow you to play any other video file until the WDTV Live Streaming Media Player is rebooted. This can also be accomplished without getting off of your sofa by going to the setup menu, selecting System and selecting Restart.
What bothers me is that either Western Digital support still does not know about this problem or they know about it and refuse to acknowledge that it is a major problem.
I say this because I have seen many others complain about this problem at Amazon.com and other forums for at least several months.
I called customer support and they said they never heard of this problem before and that I should return the unit and purchase another. He said that it had to be a defective unit.
I took his suggestion returned the unit and purchased another. The new unit was purchased from another store with a totally different serial number. However, the problem still existed in the new unit.
The built in media player on my Samsung 52" TV and the Micca EP600 media player will let you get out of the problem video and still allow you to play another without rebooting.
I still like this unit very much. It has minor flaws that I will discuss in the near future. I just think that the above bug is a major one and should not be ignored by WD.
I am new to this forum and was wondering how responsive Western Digital was to problems discussed here.
Yes you’re right, WD is ignoring this problem and all I thought when I bought this product it wasn’t a beta release. I feel discourage of this product right now, I hope that the next firmware release should satisfy as customers.
I guess my question about the new firmware was lost in the eleven pages of complaints about the loss of services.
I am wondering if the new 1.07 firmware solved the bug above. Will the unit still require a reboot if it comes across a bad video file other than a MP4 that WD says they fixed.
No bad video file should require that you reboot to play any other good video file. You should be able to back out of the bad file so you can try another without getting the dreaded “Unsupported File Message”.
I deleted my bad video files so I cannot test the new firmware but I am sure that I will probably get another soon.
Also, is there a way to wakeup the external hard drive (WD MYBOOK 500 gig) with the WDTV LIVE SMP?
I found I can only wakeup the external hard drive by disconnecting & reconnecting the HDD. Is there any new firmware for the HDD that solves this problem?
MMh, my connected WD Passport(s) stop spinning after ten minutes and start up again, when I play back a new file. When I disconnect a drive via the menu I have to physically remove and attach it though.
Could you help me, my wdtv streaming player doesn’t play 3gp and flv files and some wmv. what is solution?
