"No writable WD SmartWare partition"

Hi,

We’re getting a “No writable WD SmartWare partition” on the WD My Passport. This is using a Mac Book pro - never been used on a PC. Usually used just for back ups. 

Now we have this error. The software opens up automatically when the drive is plugged in. I can also see the previous backups in Finder.

Any idea’s of how to proceed to back up again?

This could happen if the drive is formatted as NTFS

backup the data and reformat the drive

When you say ‘back up the data’ should i copy the data from the hard drive onto the mac, then reformat and the put the data back on the drive and the do a normal back up?
