No option to select/change 'Scheme' during set-up. Help!

Trying to format a new WD Elements external hard drive for Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.16.

Have followed the KB articles and getting the “MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation” error.

Tried to follow: macOS: Disk Utility Error "MediaKit Not Enough Space on Device for Requested Operation" but at step 5 my ‘Format’ option is not exactly as pictured (I selected ‘OS X Extended (Journaled)’ which looked close, and there is no ‘Scheme’ option. Selecting ‘Erase’ at this point gives the same error messages:

Unmounting disk
MediaKit reports not enough space on device for requested operation
Operation failed…

I seem to be stuck. Help!

Hi Img,

Make sure you are selecting the drive in the disk utility while re-formatting it not the partition of the drive.
