Optical is working as usual (with Audio set to digital optical pass-thru) except with Netflix and I am trying to avoid resetting the device 
In my particular setup, the HDMI from the unit is connected to the TV and the optical Out is connected to my Sherwood AVR. I can listen to Netflix via HDMI to the TV.
What do you mean by “just try changeing the optical audio.”? Netflix works fine when Audio is set to Stereo.
Does anyone know what is the Audio format used with Netflix steaming?
