Interesting problem that I’m not able to figure out: basically I get no audio on my Divx MP4 files when I stream them from my laptop to my WDTV Live. X264s play fine and the same MP4s will play if I play them from a local storage device attached to the WDTV LIve.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might resolve this problem?

Are you accessing them as a share or as a media server. If media server, try as a share.

only connecting to laptop as shared. Is it worth trying it the other way round (as media server)?
