I just installed a my passport external drive and set up the smartware 2.2.0 to backup by cagegory - continuous. When it finished doing the original backup, I exited the smartware and shut down the computer. I then restarted the computer and created a new file that was saved to my documents folder. I then plugged in the USB cord to the passport drive and waited for a while before starting smartware and attempted to locate the new file using retrieve. The new file was not present to retrieve. What am I doing wrong? Does smartware have to be running at all times for the continuous backkup process to work? If so, where in the users manual does it say so? If not, what have I done wrong? I understood that whenever I attached the my passport drive it would recognize new or changed files and back them up automatically.
Is good to make sure the file is not in use, otherwise it will not get backed up.
Smartware will categorize files automatically and the drive does not need to be connected at all times.
