No Access to Shares

HI, i have been using 2 EX2 Ultra unit for a couple of years but I have suddenly hit an issue where the NAS will show in File Explorer but I have no access to any of the shares. I was unsure if it was due to a windows update so I restored to a previous restore point, no joy.

I have gone through the usual checks SMB 1 etc. I have added a couple of images to clarify.

What version of Windows are you on now? 24H2-25H2? What error message are you getting when you try to access.

Check out the following link for issues with “SMB Signing” and try the remedies.

Hi currently on version 25H2

It’s probably the SMB signing issue. Following the links above

Thanks I finally got to the issue, its the firmware on the WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS, which was set to auto update, so rolled back a couple of version which fixed the issue. Still not sure why but can take up on WD Community.

Cheers

Dave

LOL. This is why I never auto update perfectly functioning firmware.

Keep an eye out for the “SMB signing” issue. Microsoft will eventually break functionality for you. Planned obsolescence is annoying. (spoken as a happy Win10 user who is currently looking for TurboTax workarounds)

the disks are healthy, the firmware is up to date, and the storage is mounted correctly. What’s actually happening is a Windows file-sharing issue. Recent Windows updates have tightened security and no longer play nicely with the older SMB authentication used by the EX2 Ultra. That’s why the NAS still shows up in File Explorer, but the shares won’t open. Clearing old Windows credentials, logging in with a proper NAS user instead of guest access, and reconnecting usually fixes it
