Newbie on MacBook backup

Hi there,

I have tried to backup the mac to a new G technology external drive,

Firstly, I have formatted the external drive (took me 3 days)
Secondly, I tried to partition the drive, but I have failed…I have to divide it into 3 but it says:

error: mount_apfs exit status 73
The volume /dev/disk2s2 could not be verified completely.
Storage system check exit code is 78.
Storage system verify or repair failed.
Operation failed.

Here is the detail I have chosen for the drive:
Device: G-Drive mobile USB Media 2 TB
APFS (Case-sensitive, Encrypted),
Scheme: GUID Partition Map

I just bought it 3 days ago…it is brand new.

What’s happened?
What can I do?

Jimmy

Hello,

First of all you are adding a lot of complexity to the drive and APFS is not meant to work in that way.

APFS is designed for OS drives, not large capacity external storage drives.

Your best option is to use HFS+ as it was out of the box. We would suggest using folders for organization instead of making separate partitions.
