New WD My Book Essential 2 TB - no evidence of WD Smartware or VCD

I have a 6 year old HP Pavilion with Windows XP.

Yesterday I got  WD My Book Essential 2 TB  and plugged it in.

A Windows installer window appeared on the screen and wanter to look for a “driver” ( I think). I let it and the installationed seemed to go OK. But I saw not evidence of WD Smartware. So I started looking around for it and found this forum.

Last night I also copied MyDocuments to it. And did a Norton 360 backup to it.

How do I get WD Smartware and should I get/have VCD?
