New Release - Firmware Version 3.00.28 for WD TV Live Hub (11/17/11)

Accuweather content is completely irrelevent for me…   How about sourcing something by location for relevence eh?

Is the RSS feed good for anything but advertising WD stuff to people who have already bought it?

Hehehehe… the darts is kinda fun… except I have a real board downstairs in the bar…

Will using my own folder of images as my screen saver still crash my hub?

You can add your own RSS feeds.   Such as a feed to this topic, for example.

Using folders of your own images for the screen saver crashes your hub???   Never heard that one before…

Add my own feeds eh?  And how does one do that?

Crashing the hub using my own pic folder as screen saver… I’ve posted about it before here… So much time passed without any answer I pretty much gave up…

Like I’ve given up on WD improving the music player interface…

YMMV

Interestingly I have done every updated since I bought my hub last year vie the device and I have never hit an issue.  I am running via wired ethernet, not wi-fi.   Also curiously I have never had many of the issues alot of people here seem to complain about.  I suspect it comes down to uses in alot of cases and what wd is testing with.

Upgraded a couple hours ago seen major changes so far all I care about is media. Playlists still work even past 60 ish. Second thing seemed alot less clunky than last upgrade seems to run smoother and faster. I like the flexability to force a recompile however it seems when I exit back to the home screen it goes directly to folder view. I then have to go back to a refresh or clear it and start again. I made a couple of minor changes like movie jpgs and when I did a recompile it never changed them. I like the fact that you now can search actors even with third party created XMLs however when there is more than one movie by an actor it does not show the movie just a whole bunch of searches for that actor so this is kinda useless.

At This point and time I am mulling on deleting my NAS folder that is on the hubs drive as a synch folder and letting the hub start from scratch a bit afraid that I am going to open up a big can of worms any thoughts on this guys. I just am a bit unhappy and don’t know why it goes back to folder view once you exit there are alot of new settings and I may just be overlooking something any thoughts on this also.

Anyways in a nutshell I think a great improvement

installed the update … can’t watch any videos now. my library is all .vob files. the listing shows up fine, but when i try to watch one, i just get a blank screen. this is very frustrating. now to roll back, i have to go back to work and dowload firmware onto a usb stick since all i have at home is a tablet …

I ran the new update and I can no longer access my NAS that is running a SMB share. Everything else seems to be working fine, I had no problems with Netflix or Youtube. The whole NAS thing is a major issue and I tried to downgrade but it just isn’t working. Any help with fixing either problem would be greatly appreciated.

Since the last few firmware releases I’ve had 2 issues:

1.When my screensaver (random pictures) kicked in while playing music, the music would stop.  THIS HAS BEEN FIXED IN THE LATEST 3.0 RELEASE.

  1. Music tracks (mostly flac files) are in reverse order.  I start each file name with the number of the track and the largest number is first in the list, rather than last).  In the new 3.0 release, THIS CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM.

AND NOW ALL MY ALBUMS ARE IN REVERSE ORDER.

What’s going on ???

ned

Is there a document somewhere that details the new menu and sub-menu functions? I downloaded the user manual linked to the 3.00.28 update page and found nothing new documenting the new functionality. The slow guy would appreciate a pointer or link.

Thanks,

“Not Richard”

After updating to 3.00.28 it seens after accessing a couple videos from a Playon server the WD Live Hub locks

up. It either has a black screen or a orange spinning arrow. It takes a manual power cycle to bring it back to life. It seems to happen more often when a video is not found or after using the back button while watching a video.

It seems to be working a lot more smoothly…navigating trough the menu is a lot faster. And there finally is a custom meta-data agent! Love it.

Only weird thing is that the folders are listed first, and then the iso/mkv files. How can i change that? It’s not that i can place what’s in a subdirectory into the headdirectory, cuz then it would have 10x VIDEO_TS content…

Remark on the RSS feed and missing in manual

There should be a ‘+’ option on the screen to add RSS feeds + type url (that will be nasty without a physical keyboard). In the manual PDF page 173 - book page 168 or chapter 14) from the latest WDTV Live this feature was in there from the start.

I’m very curious if we can also add video rss feeds so we can play e.g. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart or Colbert Report (which are also available worldwide i think at least it’s available in the Netherlands).

http://www.comedycentral.com/rss/tdsvideos.jhtml

http://extechops.net/full-episode-feeds/daily-show.rss / UPDATE: this does not work it only shows the description/text
http://extechops.net/full-episode-feeds/colbert-report.rss / UPDATE: this does not work it only shows the description/text

According to the WDTV box it does have Flash support i think but i’m not sure if this is the same version as e.g. ComedyCentral is using.

I think it would be good if the User manual would also be updated with the latest features of the Live Hub such as:

* RSS feed

* Recently added Internet Services such as: Hulu Plus, Shoutcast Radio, Spotify, DailyMotion, Vimeo, PlayJam, YouTube Leanback

Good to read that:

* the screensaver/audio bug has been resolved

* that there is a automatic ‘get metadata content’ feature in the latest firmware for movies, tv series and music albums. (it’s running at the moment here that will take some time before all my movies, tv series are done)

I wil certain test it to see if if now also find the metadata/movie image. I’ve just upgrade and noticed that tv series are also included. So no need anymore for manual work via the old solution: http://www.tonysown.net/XMLFetcher/XMLFetcher.html which uses http://www.thetvdb.com.

You now also can add other Meta-Source Manager then the ones that are selected automaticly for movie, music and tv series.

Looks fine at first sight… Finaly auto-retrieving of meta info…

DVD thumbnail does´t show up on DVD folder (folder with subfolder - VIDEO_TS)
Insted of cover art, wd shows media icon

I was not able to find this

This is an issue because the RSS links above are not real RSS addresses but links to open a web page with the flash window. For real RSS should be possible using Mediafly Onair.

As I reported earlier, still can’t connect to wifi network. Restarted, returned to factory settings , made reset to the rooter. Nothing. But when I decided to rollback to previous firmware, which I’ve got from wd website, the device shows 0% of progress and then reboots back to the current firmware. Why I can’t rollback?

“DVD thumbnail does´t show up on DVD folder (folder with subfolder - VIDEO_TS) Insted of cover art, wd shows media icon”

This is what it does on the new WD Streamer…

@Bergmann: I’m also using WIFI to access the network and i also did the upgrade from 2.07.17 > 2.08 > 3.00.28 just now. Everything works fine. I can connect from my desktop pc again to my WDTV Live Hub as I did before.

I only had to test again the wifi access and confirm the previous WIFI connection and it automaticly connected again. I didn’t need to type the password of the wifi network at all.

I was about to post everything OK here, then I tried my m2ts copy of rio and it wouldn’t even play, and no audio track was stated. However my full bluray rips of the Jurassic park trios just released are in m2ts form and work fine. Hope it didn’t add something like Cinavia to the unit, and I’m just being paranoid.

I have tried the Mediafly Onair app and did find e.g. The Daily show with Jon Stewart when using the search feature in the iphone app however both the ‘Comedy’ icon and ‘CTV’ version give the message ‘this video is currently not available’ on my iPhone. Is this maybe because i live in the Netherlands where those two feeds are blocked for IPs outside US. The above do work in Europe (Netherlands) as well and i can watch the stream via the website in NL.

I’m also wondering where in the app i can connect to my WDTV Live Hub as I simply can with the ZappoTV app.

Unfortunately both apps don’t have a feature to add one of the above rss feeds. I only found in the ‘Settings’ of the Mediafly Onair app the feature ‘Content source’ but the above links did not work. You need to have a ‘mCode’ whatever that may be.
