WD is happy to announce our latest firmware update for the WD TV Live Media Player.

It’s a miracle.

I can now stream bird60.m2ts over my network.
Bird42.m2ts was my previous maximum.
Also the Casino_Royale.m2ts testfile plays without stutter.

Mkv performance also increased a little bit.
I always had some problems streaming the movie ‘avatar’ in some scenes.
These problems are gone.

The Menues are way too bright after starting the WD now and alltime change its brightness once you move the curser for example in the Video List.

Id say 50 % more brightness. If it changes brightness “back” its alltime going back to normal Level as it has been before

in all other Firmwares which was flawless.

To reproduce this. Once you move the cursor over a  Video in the List  and have Preview Modus Activated its

going back to good Menue Brightness Level same moment the preview Video Starts.

If you move up or leave the Preview its 50% more brightness and so on.

This has never ever been before. I sure made a factory Reset after the Update.

On PAL WD Live the Standard Output of the Menues are 60 HZ now with having all setup to Autoframe and HDMI Auto. And you cant change this anymore in doing a 15 secs stick in FActory reset. Its alltime 60 HZ in the menues now.

Autoframe has been improved in PAL NTSC 50HZ /60Hz changes.

They are now better in smoother detection and playback.

So far as ive heard /seen if Framerate changes the next Video Audio starts accurate now and the Video starts a bit later. Before we had like several seconds skips.

I just tested several .m2ts HD Movies and i still cannot fast forward or skip for 10 Minutes without causing the Video to

 jump around to a unwanted position like partly near End of Movie or begining or wherever if you then press Play again.

Once you do a MKV or Mp4 everythings working again with FF , Skipping 10 Minutes and so on.

So i wonder what has been improved actually in m2ts playback?

Unfortunately my experience was not that good. Isos & mkvs worked fine. However, the avis had problems. The movie plays a little, & then there is no sound. I don’t like the brightness either.

There is something VERY VERY wrong with  HDMI now…

If I have my TV on, and I turn on the WD TV Live with this new firmware, everything is PURPLE - videos, menus, EVERYTHING.  

If I force the WD TV Live to re-handshake (Switch to another HDMI port and then back, or disconnect then re-connect  the cable), it comes back with the proper blue colors, and video is properly displayed.

As soon as I turn off then back on the WD TV Live, it’s back to purple.

Make sure your COLORSPACE settings are correct.  It almost sounds like it’s set to YCbCr instead of RGB…

I’ve played with every option in the Video Settings menu.  None of them rectify the problem.  The only difference is that some of the options change the purple to other colors, like green.   Right now it’s set to auto for everything.

I’ve had my WD TV Live for about a year now, and never had this problem.

Thanks Tony .  I’ve bookmarked that in case I need to roll it back.

I can live with this for a little while if the WD people need me to test/send data to them to rectify the actual problem.  I don’t mind helping.

Was the screen saver issue fixed that was introduced a few firmwares back; when a Video file is paused the screen saver does NOT start?

I just upgraded from 1.04.22V to 1.04.31V and immediately noticed a major issue with the brightness / black level. 

  1. The blue onscreen menus look washed out and too bright.

  2. All of my jpeg photos look washed out and too bright.

I had similar black level problems after upgrading from 1.02.21 all the way up to 1.03.49V. These issues were fixed in 1.04.22V but are now broken again in 1.04.31V. 

My TV is a Samsung LN52B750. My WD Live settings are HDMI Auto, 1920x1080, with YCbCr. This is the correct color space setting for my TV using Bluray mkv’s.  RGB Low exhibits the same problem with washed out menus & photos, while RGB High just makes everything (including videos) look too dark.

Sorry guys but I’ll have to pass on this version. Please fix…

Thanks for the New firmware.Can i ask if the flac with 96khz sample rate play fine now?Because in the previous firmware it downsampling in 48khz.

I had the same problem.  The video was purple everywhere.  I went to the Audio/Video settings, set the video to HDMI, 1080i 60Hz, and I changed to either RGB High or Low (the opposite of what was picked).

I have similar problem, save that I see a green screen. I see no benefit from this update.

Tony, the link provided does not have 1.04.22_V.  does anybody know where else i can find the previous version?  I will try to roll back on this version. 

i noticed some network connection issues on Videos/network.  it cuts in an out. like it is losing network connection.  i click on Network, my pc comes up then suddenly goes back to Network.  click on network again, nothing happens. tried a few more times and finally my pc comes up under the network list.  this is a direct connection to the router.  i was connected with no issues right before the upgrade.  i have tried disconnecting power, hit the reset button but no luck. 

also noticed the washed out bg as well.
