New MyBook 8TB not unlocking

Hi Tech Guys,

my brand new MyBook 8TB arrived today (Sunday…cool) and I immediately set about setting it up.

I accidentally connected it in a USB2.0 port because it’s dark where the back of my PC is.

It started up ok and it was available to access.

I set a password for it that I am 100% sure I typed correctly because it is my pc startup password and I typed it twice.

When I tried to copy some files to it I realised I had mistakenly put it into a USB2.0 port. So I unplugged it and put it into a USB 3.0 port.

Of course, it was locked etc so I rebooted the PC with the device disconnected and then connected it again once the PC had restarted.

However, the current situation now is that when I click on WD discovery and it says the device is locked. I click on the device and I type in the password to unlock it and it hangs at this point. The device is not unlocking using the password.

I am wondering if moving the ports from USB2.0 to 3.0 has caused some form of problem and if there is something I need to do to get the device to unlock.

(PS I have an essentials drive and a cloud drive and all my drives in my PC are WD so I really want to add the new Mybook to my WD family of drives here. )

Thanks for any tips you can offer here.

Much appreciated!

Best Regards

Peter Nolan

Ok Guys,
I figured this one out. In case it helps anyone else?

I down loaded the WD Drive Utilities and formatted the drive from the beginning.

That seems to have gotten rid of the password problem.

Now I am copying things to the drive and seeing how it performs.

I hope this helps someone else!

Best Regards

Peter

WD My Books are backwards compatible with USB2.0 so i can’t imagine that being the cause of the original issue.
