New laptop running Windows 8.1 doesn't recognize the drive - but a MAC recognizes it fine

Hi All,

My 3TB My Book Essential 1140 is recognized by windows 8.1 as Local Disk. It assigns it a drive letter, but won’t allow me to access the drive. I downloaded the WD Data Lifeguard Tools, and it says the drive passes the SMART status. However, it fails the quick test (Quick test on drive 2 did not complete!  Status Code=02 Interupted by hard or soft reset. Failure Checkpoint =97 Unknown test). No clicking noise from the drive, and I updated the firmware. HOWEVER, It works FINE on a MACBOOK Pro.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Scott

How is the drive formatted? A drive formatted for a Mac is not usable on Windows without additional software or reformattting.

Joe

It’s coming from a Windows 7 laptop (laptop died). It’s formatted for windows. I plugged it into a MAC just to check it, an it worked fine. Any suggestions? Thanks.
