New Drive (WD20EARX) Long SMART Test failing

I bought a new WD20EARX-00PASB0.

I immediatly checked the SMART Values which were normal.

I ran badblocks (write mode) for about 10 hours which did not show any issues either and completed two full write/read passes.

Then I put the drive into production, writing about 1TB of data to it. While the read/write operations did not show any issues after checking the SMART values again it showed Current_Pending_Sector 1. This is after about 20 hours LifeTime

I started short offline tests which were immediatly failing showing the LBA of the first error.

After reading I figured out that reallocation only happens on writes, so I did a dd to issue write commands to the specific blocks which lead to Current_Pending_Sector chaning from 1 to 0. Interestingly the Reallocated_Sector_Ct stayed 0.

After starting a long test it went fine for 40% until it stopped again with a read failure at a different LBA. Also Multi_Zone_Error_Rate changed to 1.

I tried the above again and issued overwrite commands to the reported LBAs but this time without effect. Even though the write command completes successfully the next long test still failes at the same LBA.

I then did a dd to overwrite the whole drive with zeroes. This completed successfully, however the long test is still failing at the same LBA

Any further ideas to get this fixed? Any experience if WD will accept an RMA in that case?

Thanks in advance

I would suggest replacing the hard drive, if you bought it less that 30 days, see if the store can replace it for you. You can also create the RMA number online. Follow the link below for the steps.
