New drive showing 0 Gb capacity in WinDlg

I’ve just installed a new internal WD30EURS-73TLHY0 SATA HDD, and it’s showing in Device Manager but it doesn’t have an installed device driver, nor does it show in diskpart or WinDlg.

If I manually install the standard HDD driver via the Device Manager, then the disk shows in Disk Management as uninitialised, but trying to do so gives an “I/O error”. It does now show in WinDlg, but the serial number and firmware version fields are both blank, and the capacity is listed as “0.00 Gb”.

Is there something I’m missing, or is it just defunct? Thanks!

spiralx,

This is most unfortunate, but it does not sound like a healthy disk drive. I would recommend a replacement under warranty.
