What is going on with codec updates. This thing is supporting less and less new codecs. Is this now time to find a new Media Player that takes a interest in its customers???

what are you talking about
the only new codec, I’m aware of is h.265 , which is not out there in the wild yet
it’s also unrealistic to think WD can somehow magically change hardware based codec support without new hardware

No such thing. Codec support hasn’t changed at all.
More info, please, on what you’re having problems with?
when i download a VP9 or DVIX Plus Or DVIX HEVC i get a not supported format message.
gee , like already said, codec support has never changed
codec support is in the hardware not software, only way for WD to change codecs is hardware change
codecs have never changed on the device, and they never will
so please refer to user manual http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705062.pdf

No surprise there… those have never been supported.
