Hi I’ve just purchased a 4TB WDBYFT0040BBK-DA drive and there appears to be no security software included, have installed the Drive Utilities but nothing in there either, should it have password security on it, i would have thought so and the shop salesman did too. if not can it have something downloaded to it like the virtual disc unlocker or similar?

Try install and run WD discovery or WD Security software if it can enable the password on the drive. Not all WD external hard drive product come with password protected.
