Network share connection issues - PC with two IP addresses

Hi all,

Can someone please assist with the following issue.

WD TV LIVE
Connection to Win7 PC via LAN cable.
ADSL router running DHCP.

I am able to access the PS3 media server and shares on the Win7 PC when setting PC to DHCP.
When setting up the PC with two IP addresses, I am able to see the PS3 media server but not any shares.

PC has a static route: route -p ADD 172.18.0.0 MASK 255.255.0.0 172.18.93.94

Any ideas why I am able to see the PS3 media server but not network shares when configuring the PC with a static IP?
It has to be something todo with the two IP addresses on the PC, but why does PS3 media server show but not shares?

Thanks.

One thing I notice is that the default gateway on the 172.18 network is set to 192.168.x.x.  That’s wrong;  a gateway should be in the same subnet  as the interface.

Not sure if that’ll make a difference for you, though…

Thanks for the reply but 192.168.1.1 is correct because that is the ADSL router which both 192 and 172 routes through.

If you say so… But that violates the most basic priniciples of IPv4 networking – that’s just wrong.  ;)

I agree with you but it works.

With the static IP the WDTVLIVE can reach the PS3 media server which runs on the PC which means the network and routing is fine. Why can the WDTVLIVE not pick up the shares which is located on the same PC is what I want to know.

Easy fix, give us the option to manually specify the share with machine name or IP.
