Does it play MKVs? DTS? Any HD audio format? I don’t think it does…
If you limit yourself to 720p MP4s and AC3 audio, AppleTV is great.
But it’s not a technically impressive unit, and the limitations would drive me nuts.
I’m guessing the only reason AppleTV has Canadian Netflix is because Apple just threw a bunch of money at Netflix (could it be a temporary exclusivity deal?).
WD and the other manufacturers may be trying to negotiate a saner deal.
I doubt Apple would of thrown a bunch of money at them. Given the comparison, Netflix would be the one throwing them the money. After all we are talking about “Daddy - Apple”. I’m no fan of Apple but I am of WD, just can’t spin my head on why it would be so friggin difficult to do.
Here’s another strange comparison. I have a Samsung 1600 which is Netflix capable in the states but not in Canada. Now you can say that it has to do with server location…blah blah blah…but I don’t believe it. There are 2 newer version of Samsung Blu-ray players that have come on line to work with Netflix…but not the 1600!!!.
On that principle alone, I don’t understand what is going on.
