Need some help

The reason I am here is to find out why my hard drive is no longer  seen by my computer.  It has just disappeared, the disk is spinning and the pilot light is on, but the computer does not see it.

 It had been working for years, but the last time I looked for it was several years ago.

What might my problem be?
