Need info on WD M.2 SSD 250/500/1TB drives

Hi Guys new to the WD forum.

Would like some information on installing Win 10 sys onto M.2 SSD into a Asus X299 -A motherboard. I have read there might be problems. I have already cloned my OS from my HD to a WD 500 M.2 SSD and I am using it as my main boot system. But people have been saying that I should have installed the Win 10 system from a USB in certain modes in BIOS.

Questions I would like to ask is:

  1. Are the WD M.2 SSD drive suitable for use as a System Win 10 drive?

  2. If Yes! do they need a special install from Windows and BIOS on a USB?

  3. Are they safe to clone to and from??

  4. How can I test one of my WD M.2 SSD 500Gb drives as it will not allow any sort of cloning or mounting to desktop. I feel it may be a faulty
drive and only 3 months old. ( I have two M.2 500GB SSD drives and the first M.2 is my current OS boot drive.) to test the dodgy M.2 SSD
I removed my OS M.2 drive from the SATA M.2 slot and inserted the dodgy drive to see if it would mount or be seen in Windows Explorer or even clone to it?
*It was seen in BIOS but not in Windows?

  • Acronis 2017 saw it but could not clone to it due to errors?

What would anybody do to be sure it is faulty?

I have a 1TB WD which I want to use as my main OS system…are there any steps I need to take in BIOS or anything you can advise?

Thanks to all that reply
