Hello, I have a WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS connected directly through an Ethernet cable to my VDSL router which is directly connected to the internet. I have a high-speed internet connection and there is nothing complicated or out of ordinary in here.
However, when I access any folder on my NAS drive, like for example pictures’ or videos’ folder, it takes some time to open or play its contents, so I would like to hear from you as whether my NAS drive speed is normal or not.
How are you accessing your files? A few more info would be necessary to help you out.
Is it local or over the internet? Do you use a PC or other device? App or something like SMB, etc.?
You having a high-speed internet connections suggests you are accessing your NAS outside from your home network. In this case however, a high-speed internet connection with high download speeds doesn’t always translate to high upload speeds. Which upload speeds do you have? Additionally often there is no ‘direct’ connection from your NAS to your end device but rather a relais server being used, unless your open the network router ports for your NAS.
Please try following setup: Connect your both your PC and NAS to the same network over Gigabit-Ethernet cable and access it over SMB. How are your speeds?
I have created a map network path, like for example (Z:) http://192.168.1.10 so that I can locally access files on my NAS drive from my desktop PC since both are connected to the same network. The network connection topology is straight forward: my desktop PC and NAS drive are each connected through an Ethernet cable to my VDSL router.
Having said that, I rarely access my NAS drive from my mobile app (official My Cloud app), unless I’m outside home and want to access some files.
