MyPassport corrupt via FireWire / OK via USB

Running MyPassport 500 gig f/w 800 drive on MBP Snow Lep.

Using f/w interface, totally hosed.  DiskUtility failed to check, hung, finder hung, shutdown (cli) hung, required hard reset.

Took MyPassport to MacPro running SnowLep and plugged in f/w and ran DiskUtility:  finder died, and /Applications/Finder.app disappeared, so Finder would not restart.  Emergency ‘reboot -f’ and booted off backup boot volume (ha!) and repaired system volumes.  /Applications/Finder.app was there, still, on the system volume.  Must have been some in-core corruption  of the buffer cache that caused things to go weird.

Booted snow lep install on MBP and repaired system discs, and then cautiously plugged in MyPassport via USB and ran disk utility and did a check/repair: nothing wrong with it.  Nothing at all.

Ejected, plugged in f/w 800, ran check, pretty much immediate error.  Ejected, plugged in via USB, ran check, no problems.

So, what is wrong with the f/w interface?  Broken on this unit.  General problem?

Might be a bad/broken cable.  Since there’s been no replies, maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.
