Is it safe to turn off my cloud home devices when they are not in use?
You can shut it down. In the mobile app go to settings > Select the device and then at the bottom is the shut down button.

I was swindled into buying a MCH to replace a failing MY Cloud device, figuring from the name it was at least as good as the old one. Wrong. I use it only as local backup storage, and never planned to access it over the Internet, so hadn’t even installed the mobile app until I read this.
I can’t believe WD markets this dumb thing without even a locally accessible dashboard under the previously good My Cloud name.
