MyCloud Extremely Slow

MyCloud is extremely slow - there is quite a lag time just trying to open folders to get to files. When I use the desktop app, it says it is version 0.0.0, which seems quite odd. I have read the support page about updating to OS3, but can’t find anywhere on my desktop app how to upgrade. If I try to follow the browser method, I’m not quite sure what to type in to replace devicename - “Mac: Open a web browser and type in //devicename.local (or device IP address) to the web address bar”, or where to locate the IP address for the drive. Also, where would I find the firmware version to know if that too needs to be updated. Not sure if any of these things will help speed things up but haven’t updated this since I purchased it and should probably try updating as first step.

If your using El Capitan on the Mac there are plenty of other threads deailing various problems trying to use the My Cloud.

To open the My Cloud Dashboard on a Mac the recommendation is to use the following in your web browser, provided you have not changed the My Cloud device name previously.

http://wdmycloud.local/

See this WD Support document for more information on how to access the Dashboard: http://support.wdc.com/KnowledgeBase/answer.aspx?ID=10420

It is strongly recommended that one read the WD My Cloud User Manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25) as it explains many of the features of the device and how to use those features.

@Bennor

Hi there,
I’m about to return the MyCloud 3TB because the transfer speeds I get are extremely slow (40GB in about 20h when copying a PhotoLibrary). I’m using El Capitan with a GB Ethernet Switch and Cat6 cables. Do you have any suggestion to try before I return the disk?

Thank you!

What method are you using to copy? Finder? WD MyCloud desktop app? Other?
