MyCloud Device Disconnects Itself from the Network Daily

Seems it’s kind of general problem of the MyCloud. I bought one 4TB device a week ago, downloaded and applied the most recent update. The device disappears daily regardless of activity. It happend during large upload as well as idle. Even offline it runs HD all the time.

Only 4TB version is mentioned in this topic. Anyone with 2 or 3TB with the same issue?

On the other hand I like the device, web interface, features… Hope for quick solution. I have a week to return to the seller. Then I will have to find an alternative.

@okakanja just trying to help. Sorry you’re an ■■■■■ and cant see the benefit in me giving a solution that has worked for me. No one else mentioned it, so i was the first. If some other **bleep** would have wasted their time writing like I did, I wouldn’t have had to. Keep your incosiderate comments to yourself.

good luck to all

I have the same issue. Purchased last week and it disconnectes several times a day. Looks like I’ll be returning it for something that works.

I have the 3TB model, which I had a week of night mares geting it to work at all.

I tried the static address for the device but that would never work, which part of the problem was my ISP.

After many frustration I decided to use the relay connection which is the default setting, I have been using the relay connection now for almost 6 months with no issues what so ever.

This is what I would do if I were you:

  1. backup your data that you have on your my cloud devicer

2 Do a full factory reset. (this I did because I could not get the device back to its default setting of “Relay Connection”

The full factory reset is going to take 24 to 36 hours (it took 23 hours for my 3 TB)

3 Find what IP address your My Cloud is using and its MAC address and set up an DHCP reservation. This will keep your My Cloud at the same address all the time.

4 check your router that you have UpNp enabled.

5 Once your device finishes its factory reset- do just the basic setup and confirm that it is working before you start   connecting other devices.

I am sure others will say this is not the best setup to do, all I have to say for that; my device is working going on 6 months of non stop service.

Yes, I deployed a 2TB My Cloud in January and experienced the same issue.  It was most annoying while moving files from various computers to the My Cloud “NAS”.  If I remember correctly after I statically assigned the IP address to the NIC (turn off DHCP client) of the My Cloud, it became more reliable, even though the unit would receive the same IP address from the DHCP server.  It appears that when the unit is set to DHCP mode, for its IP, it has this disconnect problem.  No I am not talking about a user’s ISP and their public IP.  Maybe someone else could try to set their IP to a static IP and see if there is confirmation to DHCP issue.

I do have a remaining issue with the unit and that is when it goes to sleep, it can not be accessed remotely.  If the unit is awake, then remote access works fine, but I would assume it defeats the purpose of My Cloud, when a user can not remotely access it unless the user is onsite to wake it out of sleep.

Hi Bill.

WD replaced mine with another yhat doesn’t work either. You guys need to comunicate about this issue - internally amongst the support staff and publically. It is not looking good. Some poor support person phoned me yesterday to check whether I am satisfied now - whoops -  There are serious issues with your internal communication about this problem. I suggest you stop replacing thes with more of the same eg. unreliable product. It does’nt help sending out more off the same rubbish.

Thanks in advance.

Hansie

WD buddies - Take back to work!

users:
I found on the web older versions of the software

Soft 03.01.03-127

evening I arrange update and say

Support was just probably doing a follow up.  I’m sure they’re working on another firmware to fix this, and it shouldn’t be too much longer before it’s released.  Hopefully, it will take care of your issues with the device.

I guessing at this point my 2TB drive is losing remote access during sleep mode. It works perfectly all the time while on the same network and fine remote before it sleeps. Then I lose it remotely but not locally???

Since I have posted my complaint the device never went down. Seems there might be a deadlock caused by indexing or something around managing large amount of new data/files.

Daily here the very same struggle!

Thought it was some bug in my system,

but it seems to be that fellow 4 TB My Cloud owners share this odd problem!

I figure I’ll toss my hat in the ring here as well.  I just received my new 4TB WD My Cloud device yesterday.  After being on the network for a few hours, it will drop.  I have two older WD NAS (a My Book Live, and a My Book World Edition), and they’ve been up and running for several years without issues.

I have no idea what is going on with the new My Cloud device.  As I mentioned before it will work fine for a few hours, then suddenly disappear from the network.  If I try to ping the device I get a “Destination Host Unreachable” error.  The only way to get access to it again is to disconnect the power and reconnect.  Then it will work for a couple hours and then stop working again.

Super frustrating and it seems there is no answer.  I’ll give it a couple days and if there is no movement on this issue (seems like everyone’s been waiting for at least 3 weeks now) I’ll just return it and get my money back.

Up until today I’ve been very happy with my Western Digital devices.  This lack of communication with an active community and with so many people reporting the same issue is discouraging.

any information?

I got my WD 2TB Mycloud on sunday. First thing i did was upgrade to the new firmware ,which was released the same day.

I have from day one (now on day 4) had constant dropouts both locally and remote. Power cycle restores everything but this obviously completely defeats the purpose of the product.

I’m now debating whether or not to return this. If they have just released a new firmware which doesn’t fix the issue then it will be a while before they issue a revised firmware upgrade.

This need to be fixed urgently and we need to have some sort of information release detailing the precise issues aroundthe problem and information around how they are going to produce a fix and the timescales for all of this. This has clearly been a festering issue since this was reported back in 2013. I kind of regret not doing proper due diligence rather than just s quick read of some product reviews which by allacounts said it is a good product. If it worked reliably it would be a great product. Has anyone tried the Seagate alternative?

We’re still testing the next firmware release.  Hopefully, it won’t be too much longer.

Having the same problem… brand new unit, 4T, WDBTL0040HWT. The problem renders the drive useless as the primary purpose of the Cloud function is to provide remote access. 3 weeks since identification of the problem may not seem very long in a development cycle, but obviously WD had a MAJOR problem with release testing!

If I was near you, I’d take that bet.

Hi there All,

in my opinion it is just **[Deleted - Trancer] **unbelievable that you buy a BRAND new device, from a WELL-know company and such things happen.

I just plugged it in 3-4 days ago at home and could not use it since. I leave for work, want to connect from there - impossible. I get back home, do the restart, everything works, go next day to the office and? SAME [Deleted - Trancer] DIFFERENT DAY. it just simply does not work.

@WD Guys: the product is on the market already almost a year (or so), and you still have hundreds of users having the same problem (hundreds here on the WD community, but I bet thousands worldwide). How the [Deleted - Trancer] someone from your technical department haven’t seen it earlier???

best,

pissed-off client

Finally, I use the following method to make the disconnect problem gone.

After restart the device.

login SSH and type the following two commands

/etc/rc2.d/./S85wdmcserverd stop

/etc/rc2.d/./S86wdphotodbmergerd stop

My device run very well for more than 3 weeks (except that I cannot view photos from “WD photos” iphone app)

Obviously, there is a bug in wdmcserverd and wdphotodbmergerd services.
