MyCloud 3Tb slowed way down

This one has me stumped. I recently bought a used MyCloud 3Tb (fw v04.06.00-111).
Using T-Mobile home internet.
Set up the drive, mapped the drive on all my devices. Copied all my files from the USB drive connected to my old router to the MyCloud with no issues.
Working great for couple weeks. One night, I went to access the drive from my laptop and I got a drive not available message. On my browser a tried to access the dashboard and it took quite a while for it to even start loading the page. Rebooted the drive, rebooted the T-Mobile gateway. Tried the shortcut again and, after a loooong wait, the public folder opened. Selecting, opening folders and files took a long time.
Now I’m getting worried so I started to copy the files from the MyCloud back to my USB drive connected to my laptop. That took forever. Slow or no transfer speeds. At one point i shut the drive down and let it sit for a couple hours. Didn’t make any difference. This was a multi day process. About 3/4 of the way through everything got back to normal. Opening fast, selecting and dealing with files at impressive speeds.
Okay, after this long-winded story (sorry)……anybody have any idea what the issue was?

The v04.06.00-111 is OS3 and is a end of support/legacy product with it’s own subforum: My Cloud OS 3 - WD Community

First step is to assign or set a manual or static IP address for the My Cloud if it hasn’t been done already. Either within the router’s administration page DHCP server section or on the My Cloud Dashboard > Settings > Network section.

Beyond that, there are various reasons why attempting to access the My Cloud or any other network client may be slow. Sometimes it comes down to Windows (if using Microsoft Windows) polling the local network for active clients before it attempts to access them.

Due to the age of the OS3 My Cloud one may have to ensure SMB1.0 is enabled on Windows. Microsoft disables SMB1.0 either through update patches or new installs and one may have to re-enable it.

What type of Internet devices are provided by T-Mobile for you to use? What speeds are provided? What speed does your plan provide.

I have Spectrums Gigabit plan, but I own my own modem and router. My two main computers use 802.11 ax 6e wi-fi.

When I move data from my old 1st generation WDMYCLOUD back to my computers or thumb drives I use drag and drop from the MYCLOUD to my computer or device. The time for this to take place depends on how much data has to be moved.

Do you have a way of seeing what is taking place and how long it may take for the data to be moved? See example image below.

Do you have any other apps running on your MyCloud? Can you get to the dashboard and see what the CPU usage and ram consumption are (assuming it shows these)?

I have an old EX4 (not the same unit but on OS3) 4x2TB connected via ethernet to my desktop (1GB through a switch) so no router needed. I’ve had it since 2015. I host a bunch of pictures and videos on it as well as all my files, vm’s and backups. Ran great for the longest time. One day (was sometime early last year), it seemed to randomly slow down. When I checked the unit, all the drive lights where flashing (blue) indicating activity. Odd since I was doing anything that complex. It would take quite a while settle down and act normally again. Until it didn’t, and would flash all the drive lights (still blue). I couldn’t even log into the dashboard most times nor access via SSH.

Anyway to shorten this story, my issue appeared to be the DLNA service. For some reason, it would start a rebuild of the index (didn’t add any pics or vids) on it’s own and consume up 100% CPU. It would remain that way until the rebuild completed. Then performance returned to normal. Until the EX4 decided it was time to rebuild. If I shut down the NAS and restart, it will work fine for a few minutes until it restarts the rebuild. So I turned DLNA off and have not had the runaway activity since. I use VLC on my devices to watch vids so I didn’t need the DLNA service.

Thanx, I’ll look into that

I think that the DLNA settings were the problem, turned them off

I have the T-Mobile ‘Amplified’ plan. There are 3 plans, amplified is in the middle. The gateway (reciever) has a router that supports WIFI 7. They dont specify speeds in their advertising because it all depends on your distance from a tower. I’m about a mile from the tower and have a very good connection without having to place my gateway in a window or on the second floor like they recommend. This is a speed test that I did today.

when I had Spectrum internet and a Linksys router, I was able to plug in a USB drive to act as a NAS. In order to keep using the USB drive I would have had to use the Linksys router with the T-Mobile gateway. The router built into the gateway is way better so I picked up the MyCloud drive for a NAS.
The transfer speed Im getting now is shown below but when I was having the problem it was at zero until it felt like doing something.

So far, I’m happy with the T-Mobile internet. The best part is my internet bill went from $85 to $40 per month.
