The unit has been playing up for a while now, disappearing from the network. I think it may be overheated… anyway, finally it seems to be dead. The unit still powers up OK, only the drive is not showing up on the network. I have tried to connect it directly via USB and Ethernet to a single computer but still can’t read it. What is the best way to know if the actual drive is gone, or to retrieve the data?
if you have try everything and it;s not working you can get the data by removing the hdd and connecting to a computer
you can run a linux cd like knoppix
removing the drive will void the warranty… if you are not a linux dude is better to get to some one that knows what is doing
