Mybook studio on new IMac 27

Hi,
I’m using several mybook studio drives for video editing on Avid connected via FireWire. I have plans to upgrade to new iMac next week, but I realized new iMacs don’t have FireWire port anymore. Apple store offered thundbolt to FireWire adapter.
My question is - are there any compatibility issues? Will drives have same speed as on older macs connected directly.
