MyBook Premium not powering on

Hi,

I have a MyBook Premium 500GB (wd5000D032-000) it is probably about 6 - 8 years old, but it has always worked until recently in an office move it did not turn on.  I am not 100% sure I used the right power adapter, I do not use it often and could not remember which adapter went to it.  I used one that says

AC Input 100-240 Vac .65A Max 47-63 Hz -

DC Output 12Vdc === 2 A

The blue ring never lit up so I thought it must have been the wrong one so I ordered one from Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/WD1600B014-RNU-WD2500D032-000-WDG1NC5000N-WD1200B014-RNU-WD2500B015-RNN/dp/B0030BBH5I) that reads

Input 100-240 V ~ 1.5A 50/60 Hz

Output 12V === 3A

When I first plug it in the blue ring will light up and then go out.  So I’m thinking I should have read the first adapter because the DC power might have damaged something? (not an electrical engineer…or close)

Is it possible for me to revive it?  How can I troubleshoot & fix, maybe just blew a fuse?

Dude, you may have fried the box. if you’re lucky the mechanical drive inside the casing is fine, but you’ll need to take it apart to check.

If you used the wrong power supply you probably burnedout  a diode. Check the posts by fzabkar he has walked people through bypassing the problem. You can also try sending him a PM.
