MyBook Live Duo can't be mapped. Can I use the HDDs in a PC?

My MyBook Live Duo can no longer be mapped on my network. Multiple customer service call attempts let nowhere.

Tech support told me the only option would be to take the MyBook Live Duo to a data recovery center, that charges $1,000+ to get all the data out.

What if I just pull out one of the two harddrives (already setup for RAID mirroring) and hook them up to my PC and extract files into another external harddrive? If so, would i need an eSATA cable?
