MyBook Home gets prompt to update to smartware pro

I reformated my My Book Home (model wd5000h1cs) to remove old data.  The drive is recognized by windows and appears to be fine.  Now when I use WD Smartware 2.2.0, I get prompted to update to WD Smartware Pro for that drive.  I downloaded the firmware updater WD_MB_Home_1034_1_03, but when I run the firmware, I get the error “Error while loading generic library”.  Any suggestions?

I also copied the file from WDSmartware_Windons_Disk_Image_PP4R2_1_4_1_2.zip.  These include the folders Extras, User Manuals, WD Smartware, WD Smartware for Mac; and the files WD Quick Formatter and WD Smartware.  I believe this was Version 1.6.   I copied these files in case the 2.2.0 version of Smartware was not recognizing the drive as one it should work with because the files were missing.

Hello,

In order for you to backup to that drive, you will need the WD Smartware pro since that drive does not comes with that software.

well, it worked before I reformated the drive and it did come with smartware so actually you dont know what your talking about.

Hello JohnO999,

On the following link, you will see the applications that came with the WD My Book Home.

This drive was manufacture before the WD Smartware backup software was released. Perhaps you are confused with the backup software that used to come on that drive which is the WD Anywhere backup software.

My software updated and now I am told I need to buy a dropbox account. I did not need smartware pro version, I just want my old software back. I have file I ned to recover.
