MyBook for Mac not mounting

A year-old MyBook has been very reliable but now will not mount, although the WDSmartWare section does. I’ve run DiskUtil and its says disk is fine, but has “problems” mounting it. I’ve tried lots of techniques but cannot get at my data. Obviously urgent. Any ideas ?

Try updating the drive firmware on a different computer, preferably a Windows computer.

Since you can see the drive on Disk Utility you can use a Data Recovery software to get your files and then partition the drive.

I’ve used  Mini Tool Data Recovery in the past but there’s plenty of options you’ll find online.
