My old (2004) MyBook Essential external disk drive is no longer responsive to the laptop it is connected to.
The green (ring) light comes on, but there is no spin-up noise nor any other noises of a disk spinning
like it used to have in the old days. The laptop does not recognize the drive either. The drive has valuable data on it I need to retrieve. Can anything be done, or do I simply need to send it somewhere for “brain surgery” to get my data out of it
and then discard it?
