MyBook Essential WD2500C32 no longer responsive

My old (2004) MyBook Essential external disk drive is no longer responsive to the laptop it is connected to.

The green (ring) light comes on, but there is no spin-up noise nor any other noises of a disk spinning

like it used to have in the old days. The laptop does not recognize the drive either. The drive has valuable data on it I need to retrieve. Can anything be done, or do I simply need to send it somewhere for “brain surgery” to get my data out of it

and then discard it?


Try basic troubleshooting, check the connections, try using the drive on a different computer.

How is the drive showing on disk management.

Try using a different power adapter.
