Mybook (WDBACW0030HBK-1) stays in standby mode (LED blinks slowly) after PC shutdown. Interestingly I have another older WD MyBook 1TB (WD1000H1U-00) also on this PC and it powers down when pc is shut down. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2. Both drives are plugged into USB2 ports on the board back panel. I metered the USB port with a DMM when the PC was off and it is powered with +5V. I saw threads indicating that the drive will stay in Standby if the USB port is powered when the PC is shutdown. There was also a thread that indicate this was a firmware issue (the drive use to shutdown with older firmware but no longer shuts down with the new firmware).
I tried all the bios options in Power management including changing ACPI from S3 to S1. No luck. I can use WD smartware to shut the new Mybook down but that is an extra step at both PC power up or PC power down (and some of the younger users in the house might not be able to do this right).
But the point is why should I have to have the USB unpowered when my PC is shutdown to have the new MyBook power down when the old MyBook has no problem shutting down.
