I used it to back up my laptop data. It showed as a local disk rather than Mybook as usual. It spins but couldn’t be opened anymore.

Make sure the drive is plugged in directly into a wall outlet just to discard any power issues.
if you still have the same issue then I recommend using a data recovery software in order to recover your data.
