My external hard drive worked normally for at least 2 years until it finally wouldn’t show up and when it would it would say 1.8 out of 1.8tb, keep in mind I had 800gb of space left, I think it may just be the cord I’m using and need to get a new one but I want to check and make sure that is the problem
A faulty USB Cable is not gonna cause the drive to report the incorrect capacity of space left.
You have a more serious problem unfortunately.
First thing to do is run diagnostics on the hard drive and check for errors.
One of my WD hard drives had a Unrecoverable Sector Count error … which means the hard drive is now a paper weight.
