My WD Passport drive wont show on my computer please help me

Hi to everyone,

This might of been asked before on here but I cant find any solutions that help me.

I was midway through copying a home movie to my external hard drive when the connection died and a pop up box appeared saying the movie couldnt be copied. The external hard drive seemed to completely disconnect without warning. It still shows up in device manager and the safely remove hardware and eject tab in windows 10 but not in my computer or disc manager and it is not usable. The drive is completely unusable and I have tried everything I could find online to get it to work with no success.

I have tried using different hard drive softwares to recover it but it is not recognised in any of them. I have tried uninstalling the driers but it still wont recognise it. I tried using it on a different laptop which showed it was being installed but then it still didnt show up on my computer. Basically it wont show up no matter what i try, I am worried it might be broken. Any Ideas?

I have the same issue.

I have found allot of post without any solution, so I hope someone from WD will reply to this post.

My issue and what I did until now.

  1. Installed the latest “WD Drive Utility”.
  2. Plugged my external HDD in another laptop and desktop.
  3. Removed password using “WD Security” ejected the HDD and plugged it back in.
When I reconnect the HDD I get an pop-up that asks what I want to do when the device is connected. I selected to do nothing. I also try the 1st option to start the unlock.exe, but no different.
  4. Windows 10: Start > Disk Management : Here I see the drive, but without an letter assigned to it. I can’t assign a letter myself. When I right click it doesn’t allow me to assign a letter. I can assign a letter to any other HDD in my PC, so it’s not a permission issue.
  5. I probably tried a couple of other stuff that I forgot to mention.
